Abraxas distill a slow-burning psychedelic jam on intoxicating single, 'Mañana'
Superduo Abraxas combines the substantial talents of Los Bitchos' Carolina Faruolo and Danny Lee Blackwell of Night Beats to craft a heady, kaleidoscopic sound that incorporates some of the most compelling aspects of both member's established projects into an exciting new venture into the nooks and crannies of the psyche and beyond.
The band's latest single, "Mañana", is a slow-burning psychedelic jam that plays like the soundtrack of a forgotten spaghetti western re-scored with modern sensibilities, reminiscent of Khruangbin's festival-sized antics distilled and filtered into an intoxicating spirit for the soul, served neat with a dash of salt. "Mañana" retains the organic Latin accents of Los Bitchos and the spacy, atmospheric stylings of Night Beats while pressing forward into uncharted sonic territory, laying the foundation for a potent combination of sounds and expression that's magnetically vibey without sacrificing an ounce of substance.
The shuffling, low-key rhythm maintains an air of bemused confidence, driving woolly guitar lines that build in waves to craft an expansive, cinematic atmosphere. Vocal accents pierce the veil of consciousness like the haunting and lonesome cries of wayward coyotes stalking the Saguaros at twilight, augmenting the track's otherworldly alchemy with an untamed call of the wild. Abraxas' textural composition invites the listener to crawl inside and wrap the track around them like a vibrant serape, huddled close to a crackling campfire providing warmth and protection from magnificent and unforgiving desert nights. Lyrically "Mañana" is structured stream-of-consciousness, rolling and tumbling and willingly embracing tangents and non-sequiturs before returning to follow the central path, ever winding towards the horizon to emerge from a late night mezcal haze into a brilliant new tequila sunrise.
