altopalo's unique blend of lyrical intimacy and textural musical compositions shine on "waitin 4 u", an ethereal track from their brand new LP, frenemy.

Building from a sparse intro of delicate piano, detached vocals yearn for human connection across a digital expanse, simply spoken and overflowing with hopeful saudade. Additional instrumentation gradually works its way into the mix accompanied by glitchy electronic flourishes, slowly accumulating into a tangibly thick sonic blanket that pulses with an organic rhythm in time with analog instruments, the warmth of humanity pressing back against the cold indifference of an SMS left on read. "waitin 4 u" hits its peak when the beat pushes its way to the forefront, briefly transforming the track with celebratory exuberance before abruptly descending back to earth as the lone piano fades into the distance.

Officially classified as a visualizer rather than a video, "waitin 4 u" embraces a surreal representation of cyclical repetition as the band bounds across the sand to an unseen ocean. With each leap forward their position resets, slightly further along the path to their destination, but forced to repeat a similar movement before making any additional headway. Upon reaching the climax of the song, the image becomes awash in light as the band seemingly floats amidst pure visual euphoria, a moment of weightlessness as they cross the finish line. As the track settles down, the video runs seemingly in reverse, with altopalo retreating once again into the trees to begin the cycle anew. Wonderfully composed, the video is almost a representation of the anticipation leading up to a weekend love affair; building from Monday to Friday and bursting to life for a brief 48 hours before once again settling into a solitary routine as one's companion recedes with the daylight behind Sunday's horizon.
