Bang Camaro returns with 'Too Fast To Fall In Love,' a party-rocking anthem for never-ending good times
Bang Camaro's rise as the house band for 00s video game sensation Guitar Hero was unquestionably meteoric, catapulted into the stratosphere by the band's potent hyper-distillation of heavy metal, party rocking hooks and larger than life guitar, well, heroics. The band's debut LP remains to this day both a head-banging masterpiece and a brilliant curiosity from the dynamic era of indie sleaze. After lying dormant for thirteen years, Bang Camaro has made their return with an all-new anthem that rises from the ashes of impending obscurity like a fiery phoenix, burning with the same furious energy that smolders at the very center of heavy metal's sacred heart.
For those familiar with Bang Camaro's formula, "Too Fast To Fall In Love" delivers on all fronts; cherry-picking the sweetest elements from hair metal's heyday and recombining massive riffs, killer percussion, and a layered chorus of impossibly amped-up gang vocals into a muscle car burnout of pure adrenaline and beer-soaked brouhaha. Completely original in their unabashed worship of rock music's most cheesy variety, Bang Camaro's dedication to the celebration of low-brow thrills has remained as refreshing as the first time "Push Push (Lady Lightning)" made its debut in 2007. Time has, incredibly, been exceedingly kind to Bang Camaro which makes this comeback truly work. With just the beer light to guide them, the waxing glow of 00s nostalgia cast across rock music's undying lust for cheap thrills illuminates Bang Camaro's legacy like so many crackling neon signs beckoning revelers down brick and asphalt alleys to an epic reunion gig at the local dive.
The lyrics are deliciously bone-headed and unrelentingly infections, serving primarily as a connective tissue between mind-bogglingly epic guitar solos that tumble forth with gleefully unhinged abandon. "We live to rock, but we gotta roll!" reveals that Bang Camaro's songwriting is still as unrefined as ever, expertly arranged into emotive blasts delivered with hurricane force. Every element of "Too Fast To Fall In Love" is rendered in bold-italic, bludgeoning the listener with comically colossal antics that make Spinal Tap seem like Rush by comparison. It's easy to get lost amidst the track's perfectly organized chaos but the best course of action is just to move with the mosh, flowing like lager until the chunky breakdown locks every element into a rhythmic crunch hell-bent on snapping necks in a precision choreographed group headbang session.
The return of Bang Camaro seems to have been motivated at the behest of filmmaker James Gunn, whose Guardians Of The Galaxy movies are steeped in the same heady brew of supercharged 80s nostalgia reimagined for the modern era. The promotional machine behind the forthcoming Vol. 3 is just beginning to heat up, so with any luck Bang Camaro may once again ride the wave of a pop-cultural phenomenon directly into the hearts and minds of a new generation of fans who live to rock.
