Blackwater Holylight conjure hypnotic rebirth on surreal “Heavy, Why?”
Heavy psych mystics Blackwater Holylight cast the first spell in anticipation of their forthcoming LP, Not Here Not Gone. “Heavy, Why?” is an elemental expression of surreal somnambulism fearlessly pressing ahead into the unknown realms of the psyche on a quest for total rebirth.
“Heavy, Why?” simmers with noctilucent beauty, a densely layered descent into hypnagogic strata of churning guitars and colossally heavy rhythmic persistence that bundle tightly like folds of a woolen blanket against the bitterness of winter winds. Ethereal vocals mesmerize amidst the din, joined in otherworldly chorus by the advent of electronic flourishes that presage a steady increase in thrilling momentum as the track barrels towards totality. Exploding in slow catharsis, “Heavy, Why?” mirrors the kaleidoscopic wonder of the heavens, embracing the serenity of the infinite in the receding wake of crushing gravitational forces before settling once more into the stillness of the black.
Stunningly directed by Lorenzo Cisi with creative direction by Candice Lawler, “Heavy, Why?” unfolds as a series of impressionistic vignettes weighty with visual symbolism and hypnotic themes of a spiritual voyage beyond the veil. Like Fates baptized in the waters of the Styx, Blackwater Holylight make their way across the void, following the light of salvation through occult rituals and reflective trials amidst shifting backdrops conjured from the depths of dreams, emerging from the elemental turbulence on the shoreline of eternity.
