False Flag temper white-hot fury on venomous slow-burner “Never Gonna Be”

Tenderloin punks False Flag channel the danger and lawlessness of San Francisco’s roughest neighborhood into a full-bore DIY blitzkrieg of raw, take-no-prisoners fearlessness and aggressive social commentary. The band’s latest single, “Never Gonna Be,” tempers that white-hot fury into a focused, alt-gunge slow burner that prowls the tumbling chaos of graffiti-scrawled alleys in pursuit of elusive salvation.
“Never Gonna Be” uncoils with serpentine menace; inky black and predatory and possessed of a venomous patience that slowly constricts like the heaving throes of chemical withdrawal. Pleading through locked doors for sanctuary, for love, for a fix, False Flag give voice to the vacuum of isolation and addiction in the teeming heart of the city. Guitars churn louder and louder, the rhythm builds in intensity, and the melody of the plea contorts into a throat-rending demand, simmering rage threatening to kick through the barrier with increasingly unhinged, bloodshot mania borne of true desperation before sinking, once again, alone into the fog.
