Giveth combine muscular nu-metal and EDM euphoria on smoldering "Flames"
With the 90s revival in full swing, emerging artists are mining the prevailing sounds and styles of the era to forge thrilling new expressions that tap into the ethos of wild experimentation that dominated the decade. Hailing from New Jersey, Giveth is no exception, working muscular nu-metal into an EDM inspired framework on their latest single, “Flames”
Building on a swelling base of liquid synths, “Flames” slowly expands with measured cadence, layering in ricocheting rhythms and soaring vocals in a thrilling accumulation of emotion. The tempo slowly edges upwards, increasing the pressure as a behemoth guitar joins the mix lending an appropriately cinematic flourish to the track despite remaining relatively even-tempered. While decidedly metallic, “Flames” is constructed in a manner that more closely resembles festival-scale EDM, with Giveth finding a potent middle-ground between electric daisy euphoria and hard rock intensity. The expansive grandeur of the track and impassioned prose reinforce the sensation of being engulfed in the flames of a relationship tearing itself asunder with white hot fervor leaving only coals to simmer and fade, their essence drained from too long in the crucible but still smoldering with latent heat and longing for the spark ignite once again.
