Izzy Outerspace chases the light on radiant single "Impossible Thing"

There are few things more demoralizing than being stuck; creatively, socially, romantically, or all of the above. Gazing up from the shadowy nadir at seemingly insurmountable slopes rising on all sides, knowing that a sun-dappled expanse of verdant possibilities exists perceptually beyond one’s reach regardless of effort spent, will eventually grind even the most talented and tenacious of spirits into a state of quiet resignation. Kickstarting a stalled engine requires a spark, and creating a spark requires effort. Once that spark catches, the limit no longer exists, bursting into a million fragments like a glass ceiling shattered by the upward trajectory of a rocket ignited with the renewed passions of a soul leaving the depths behind once and for all.
Izzy Outerspace captures this sensation impeccably on her latest single “Impossible Thing,” blending effervescent euphoria with motorik momentum into a blissfully purposeful expression of dizzyingly overwhelming optimism tinted by bittersweet saudade. Propelled with percussive insistence, air rushes by cumulus clusters of billowing basslines, shot through with burnished rays of golden guitar that radiate amidst waves of prismatic synthesizer, embracing the track with comforting omnipotence. Arms outstretched, Izzy Outerspace reaches wide-eyed toward a future where dreams become reality, tantalizingly close to grasping the love, the success, the impossible thing that has eluded for so long. As the track explodes into widescreen panorama, Izzy takes one last look back, shedding a single glittering tear in recognition of the past before turning her face once more towards the light and the unfolding brilliance of destiny achievable.
Director Sydney Weinberger brings a playfully irreverent tone to “Impossible Thing” as a metaphor for the creative process and the challenge of breaking through in the music industry. Izzy masquerades as a mustachioed mafioso, enlisting the aid of a bubblegum-popping cat burglar to abscond with the track’s demo CD housed deep within a fortified top-secret location that suspiciously resembles a recording studio. From the initial clandestine meeting with The Don, through a laser-latticed Entrapment-esque training montage, Bubblegum prepares mind and body for one last heist that comes together like a DIY mashup of “Sabotage” and “Monkey Wrench” spiced up with a dash of early Guy Ritchie-flavored indie-crime seasoning. Demo delivered, a freshly paid Bubblegum sits with The Don to enjoy the fruits of Izzy’s labor spinning away inside the silver orb of a portable CD player. Impossible thing attained. Mission accomplished.
