Milly charts a flight to new heights on soaring "Drip From The Fountain"
Building towards the release of their forthcoming sophomore LP, Los Angeles’ Milly chart a course for new heights on their latest single, “Drip From The Fountain.”
“Drip From The Fountain” reinforces Milly’s signature structure of densely layered, chiming guitars and wooly rhythms that borrow heavily from 90s Britpop and shoegazey alt-rock, accented by energetic handclaps that lend an idyllic sense of sun-dappled community to the blissfully lackadaisical atmosphere. The band acknowledges that moments spent stretched out on the grass basking in the midday warmth are short-lived, as the track’s burgeoning heaviness and lyrical themes of loneliness and the endless forward march of time color the fringes of perception with the darkening shade of encroaching cloud cover. “Drip From The Fountain” is a reminder that our best moments should be cherished, satiating out thirst on a meager trickle while eagerly anticipating the day when the valve is fully opened, allowing us to bathe in a glorious torrent of unending happiness.
The Nate Kahn directed video for “Drip From The Fountain” has an air of comfortable nostalgia and wistful saudade that reinforces the halcyon disposition of the track, populated with visual metaphors for freedom and elation framed around the mechanical magic of private aviation. Milly dons the khaki coveralls and navy blue suits of a flight crew in preparation for takeoff, images washed out and laced with digital Handycam scanlines like a personal document from the past brought out to reminisce on days spent aloft and detached from the bustling world below. Stay after the credits for a spontaneous bonus scene that realigns the context of the video and the track itself into a reminder that it’s never too late to pursue a dream, to voluntarily decouple from the pressures of life and chase enlightenment amongst the clouds.
