N8NOFACE delves deep on post-punk hero's journey "As Of Right Now"
N8NOFACE is notorious for a wildly prolific body of work that effortlessly spans disparate genres as an outlet for pure, uncut creative liberation. From hip-hop to punk, industrial to noise, indie to new wave and beyond N8NOFACE has earned recognition and respect from the streets to the stadiums by refusing to compromise in any aspect of his output. Embarking into the shadowy underworld in pursuit of a priceless relic, N8NOFACE delves deep within himself on his latest atmospheric post punk single, “As Of Right Now.”
Produced in collaboration with six-string samurai Chico Mann, “As Of Right Now” is the opening salvo on N8NOFACE’s latest LP of the same name. Moody, spartanly layered instrumentals composed and performed by Mann provide an umbral backdrop for N8NOFACE to wax poetic on the nuances of love and life imparted with his uniquely engaging brand of streetwise soul. Although the aggression is dialed back, “As Of Right Now” still smolders with the same vibrant passions that define N8NOFACE’s work, combining confessional honesty with unwavering bravery in the wake of two lovers, diverged.
Taking cues from classic hero’s journey narratives and Arthurian legend, director Bobby Astro and cinematographer Sebastian Kolderup-Lane follow N8NOFACE on an impressionistic quest for self-discovery set amidst churning surf breaking on jagged coastlines and the silent serenity of subterranean grottos. Prismatic color frames and sharply contrasting black-and-white photography juxtapose with the natural landscape, warping and twisting through analog lenswork to imbue a psychedelic otherworldliness to the elemental settings. Through it all N8NOFACE ventures deeper into the caverns of the psyche, searching and striving towards his own glittering Excalibur, an icon of self-actualization and personal achievement exhumed from the depths to be held aloft by a lone warrior victorious and awash in the warmth of a bright new dawn.
