Psychic Pigs unleash independent attitude on rebellious self-titled single

Brandon Welchez of psychedelic post-punk garage rockers Crocodiles unleashes his latest project, Psychic Pigs, with a self-titled single that sizzles like molten tire tracks melting into shimmering blacktop under the unrelentingly phosphorescent LA sun.
“Psychic Pigs” is a blistering onslaught of warp speed guitar filtered through a nearly impenetrable wall of static, laced with jagged fractures enabling moments of crystalline clarity to slice through with hyper-focused efficiency. Percussion pounds away with the insistent cadence of a self-induced caffeine overdose, blasting forward with an unstoppable momentum grabs the track by the scruff of its neck and drags it towards a great big bubblegum hook that explodes with gleefully unhinged pogoing ferocity. Welchez flips the bird to the status quo with a sarcastic grin and savage wink, an electrified act of passive resistance actively checked out from the rat race in favor of a liberated existence removed from the herd and unrestricted by the walls and fences of society’s funny farm.
The intentionally low-res video directed by Adam Klopp feels like a digital artifact recovered from forgotten data tracks on a scuffed up enhanced CD from the early 00s. Ransom-note graphics layer early MTV New Wave aesthetic over a DIY presentation reveling in the freedom that lies beyond the constraints of technology. “Psychic Pigs” explodes with a creative exuberance that imbues every distorted pixel with a tangibly rebellious energy perfectly aligned with the track itself.
Psychic Pigs is out May 23 on Slovenly Recordings. Preorder the limited vinyl on Bandcamp and follow Psychic Pigs on Instagram.
