Rocket stand defiant on thunderous "Take Your Aim"

As alternative rock experiences a thrilling renaissance among the newest class of young artists making a name for themselves on the wider stage, Los Angeles’ Rocket stands at the head of the pack with a muscular attitude that flexes their collective skills. On the band’s debut EP, Versions Of You, the foursome proved themselves to be well studied, drawing recognizable elements from Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Swervedriver, and beyond to craft their own unique perspective that folds in confident songwriting and a genuine sincerity that amplifies their sonic chops with a furiously beating heart and a double shot of 100-proof verve.
Defined by a chiming, crystalline guitar riff the band’s latest single “Take Your Aim” launches off the pad with blistering energy, shining and flashing with the radiance of a full screen lens flare. Rocket’s signature percussion is in total effect, massively pummeling in thunderous lockstep with bass grooves that swing so low they expand the band’s sonic scope into a full 360-degree sensory experience that completely envelops within a swirling kaleidoscope of brilliantly euphoric and completely tactile sound. Instrumentation on the verses chugs with relentless intensity, rolling headlong into the lead riff restructured as a colossal solo that smashes the sound barrier on a one-way mission to pure, unfiltered alt-rock nirvana.
Co-directed by Noah Neal and A.J. Incammicia, Rocket blasts through “Take Your Aim” in a video that illustrates the band’s expansive ambitions by setting the stage in a too-small garage filmed through a subtle fish-eye. The effect makes it feel like Rocket is bursting from the screen, barely contained by the deteriorating walls and awash in a golden backlight that fills every molecule with elemental energy. Frontwoman Alithea Tuttle suffers the slings and literal arrows of focused negativity only to rise undeterred with a confident tenacity that imbues a visceral visual aspect to the track’s lyrical themes of perseverance and self-preservation.
Any band can downtune their guitars and dye their hair, but “Take Your Aim” demonstrates Rocket inherently understands alt rock as more than just a suit that you wear, lending irrefutable credence to the band’s authentic dedication to the resolute passions, layered depth, and inherent playfulness that define the core tenets of alternative music.
