Scimitar draw first blood in darkwave danse macabre "Razors"

Born from the blackness of Los Angeles’ darkwave underworld, Scimitar channel the tenets of classically gothic post-punk through the modern lens of the City’s unique cultural landscape to craft a brooding perspective on life lived balanced on the edge of a blade. As the first single from their upcoming LP, Errare, “Razors” introduces the band in its purest form, extending an invitation for a thrilling plunge into the abyss.
A menacing atmosphere billows with thunderhead malevolence across the track’s moody apocalyptic soundscape, summoned from the void by Scimitar’s potent alchemical synthesis of blistering crystalline guitars that flash and chime over a driving rhythm section that combines sinuous basslines with crackling, bone-dry percussion. “Razors” fully embodies the danger and allure of the shadowy post-punk netherrealm, flexing cool muscularity beneath acres of studded leather and a sinister sensuality wrapped in the skin-tight gloss of inky-black latex. A danse macabre of doom and desire, seared with burning neon across the midnight alleyways and urban catacombs in pursuit of a love that hovers ephemeral in the rearview mirror.
Captured with remarkable visual clarity, “Razors” juxtaposes the living expanse of the high desert against the bleakness of graffiti-scrawled urban decay with Scimitar always at the center, a triple-nexus of monumental personas that dominate with icy immediacy. Visions of rear-projected cityscapes and lend a cinematic dimension to the band’s presence, enhancing “Razors” with dramatic theatricality that conjures the suggestion of celluloid spectres to haunt the voids between the bodies of the living, awash in cascades of multi-colored sparks blossoming amidst the gloom. As visions of everything begin to merge and blur, the band races toward oblivion amidst a soaring guitar solo, glittering facets reflecting in the dark before crashing abruptly into silence beneath a highway overpass, concrete buttresses of the modern gothic cathedral.
