The vampire stirs: Cindy Cane teases a terrifying return with “1978”
Featuring a mesmerizing amalgamation of plodding beats and ominous synths, "1978" borrows liberally from classic horror soundtracks to craft an atmosphere of analog terror ripped straight from the celluloid frames of genre greats. Echoes of Michael Myers' measured footsteps are draped in otherworldly melodies seemingly conjured from the depths of hell itself for an effect not unlike that of Goblin's iconic Suspira theme.
Accented by swelling tones and punctuated by the grating chime of unsheathed cold steel, "1978" flirts with campiness but remains deadly serious throughout, keeping the overwhelming sensation of unspeakable terror at bay by injecting the smallest dose of dangerous playfulness. After just over two minutes of steady build up the track ends abruptly, almost mid note, giving way to an unsettling silence and a gnawing hunger for more with only a tantalizing taste of the forbidden seductively dissolving upon the tongue.
