Wet Leg pursue the fulfillment of idealized love on brilliant 'Moisturizer'

After electrifying the world with their irresistible 2022 debut, Wet Leg return with Moisturizer, a brilliantly dynamic celebration of idealized love that kicks the band’s established attitude into high gear and places them solidly at the center of modern alternative’s burgeoning pantheon.
Moisturizer doesn't break the mold, largely because it doesn’t need to. Wet Leg’s breakout debut was a lightning rod of boundary pushing, zeitgeist shifting alt rock that crackled with a timeless immediacy resonating far beyond the frequencies of most buzzy young bands. Seemingly aware that lightning doesn’t often strike twice, Wet Leg bottled that initial spark and went to work harnessing the resulting electricity, honing their sarcastic edge to stadium-sized proportions while amplifying the furiously beating heart that drives their inexhaustible appeal.
Releasing in alignment with the lengthening days and warmer weather of springtime, Moisturizer’s lead singles have already worked their way deep into the cultural fabric of 2025. "CPR" and "Catch These Fists" roll and bop with a spirited cadence, leaning hard into Wet Leg's angular and subversive tendencies with gleeful abandon to land a knockout one-two punch of infectious melodies, thick and meaty with the kind of furious hooks that are impossible dodge and taste sweet when taken on the chin.
The vibrancy of love and the inherent need for meaningful connection serves as the core thesis of Moisturizer, researched in thorough detail and presented for review from a range of perspectives that encompass a full spectrum of emotional nuance. Nestled between the opening bruisers “Liquidize” is a bite-sized vignette of a situationship in stereo, tinting subsequent selections with an ominous air of foreboding for a heart caught up in the euphoric maelstrom of infatuation contemplating taking the leap into love or suicide. Moments of aggressive obsession erupt like shattered glass on the post-grunge ripper “Pillow Talk,” and the confident kiss-off that buoys “Mangetout” floats like summertime park hangs sparkling in lightly buzzed rosé sunsets.
But it's the relatively quieter moments that really allow Wet Leg to shine, offering glimpses of tender vulnerability that juxtapose effortlessly against the bursts of pogoing muscular bravado into a wholly realized portrait of the pitfalls and pragmatism of love in the modern age. A perfect romance is realized within the psychedelic surf-pop folds of “Pokemon,” and “11:21” overflows with achingly operatic endearment. The sweetness of “Don’t Speak” shines on the chorus like fingers intertwined together in the ideal overlap of lover and friend that lasts a lifetime, mirroring the comfortable purity of a committed partnership come what may on the blissed out “Davina McCall” until, finally, at the end of the album pulling paired souls back home, together, no matter how far they roam.
